China fan palm (Livistona chinensis)
CHINA PALM PLANT
OR
LIVISTONA CHINENSIS
The China fan palm (Livistona chinensis) is a popular palm plant that is native to Southern Japan, Taiwan, and parts of China. It is a slow-growing plant that can eventually reach heights of up to 50 feet (15 meters) in its natural habitat, although it typically grows to a more manageable size of around 10-20 feet (3-6 meters) in home gardens and landscapes.
The China fan palm has distinctive fan-shaped leaves that can be up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide, with pointed segments that are green on top and silvery-white on the underside. The plant produces small, creamy-white flowers that are followed by small, black fruits.
The China fan palm is a hardy and adaptable plant that can tolerate a range of growing conditions, including full sun to partial shade and a variety of soil types. It is often used as a decorative accent in tropical and subtropical landscapes, and is also commonly grown indoors as a houseplant.
